Bedrock Integration
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Teams Bot uses Amazon Bedrock’s Converse API — not the Messages API or raw InvokeModel. The Converse API natively supports Claude’s tool-use (function calling) mode, which is the correct way to give Claude structured tools.
Why Converse API?

Tool Definitions
Section titled “Tool Definitions”Tools are defined as JSON objects matching the Bedrock Converse API schema. Each tool has a name, description, and input schema:

Security: Guardrails Are Not in the Prompt
Section titled “Security: Guardrails Are Not in the Prompt”The system prompt tells Claude about the draft-only rule, but the actual enforcement is in Python code. This is critical:
- Prompt-based guardrails can be bypassed by prompt injection
- Code-based guardrails cannot — they’re enforced at the executor layer

AWS IAM Permissions
Section titled “AWS IAM Permissions”The bot needs the following IAM policy:
